Barcelona tap water is safe to drink: it meets Spain's Royal Decree 3/2023 and the SINAC bulletins for each supply zone confirm it. What bothers people is something else: the chlorine taste from disinfection, and limescale. Zone D, which supplies 72% of the city, measured 32.9 °f in its latest sample, which is hard water (data by zone).
So start with the right question. If only the taste bothers you, removing chlorine is enough. If you also want less limescale in your drinking water, or fewer metals, PFAS and microplastics, you need a different kind of filter. More in our guide on whether you can drink Barcelona tap water.
Chlorine taste and smell. Little effect on limescale, metals or microplastics
No installation. New cartridge every few weeks, and constant refilling
Chlorine taste and particles
Screws onto the tap. Frequent cartridges and a slow flow
Chlorine, taste and smell, some organic compounds
Simple install. Periodic cartridge changes
Chlorine, limescale, dissolved solids, heavy metals, PFAS, nitrates, microplastics
Under-sink install. Filters every 12 months, membrane every 24
Carbon filters do a lot for taste but barely touch small contaminants such as dissolved metals or PFAS. Reverse osmosis does, and remineralising afterwards stops the water tasting flat.
A purifier you buy is cheaper on day one, but cartridges, membranes and call-outs are on you, and you have to remember to change them on time. A water filter service includes the system, installation, filter changes and maintenance for a fixed fee.

Before signing with any water purifier company in Barcelona, get five things in writing: the total price per month or year, what it includes (installation, filters, visits), the minimum term and notice period, a lab test of the system, and who changes the filters and how often.
We publish all of that: €24.90/month with no minimum term, two months' notice, an SGS test of the system and filters included. More in what to ask before you sign.
A tankless reverse osmosis system under the sink, with its own tap and remineralisation with calcium, magnesium and potassium. In the SGS report NBF25-0016876-01, measured with a new membrane; performance drops as filters age, it reduced lead by 99.8%, PFOS by 99.6% and chlorine by 99.5%. It fills a 330 ml glass in about 10 seconds.
We install in Barcelona city, Badalona, L'Hospitalet, Sant Cugat and Esplugues. Message us on WhatsApp with your postcode and a photo of the cupboard under your sink and we will tell you if it fits.

It depends on what you want to fix. For chlorine taste, a carbon filter is enough. To also reduce limescale in your drinking water, metals, PFAS or microplastics, the most complete option is reverse osmosis with remineralisation.
Carbon filters do not. Reverse osmosis reduces the minerals that form limescale in the water from its own tap. To protect the whole home (boiler, shower, appliances) you need a water softener.
Carbon improves taste and smell. Reverse osmosis also reduces dissolved solids, heavy metals and PFAS. If you choose RO, look for a system that remineralises the water.
With Oasly, €24.90/month or €249/year in Barcelona city with installation, filters and maintenance included, or €699 to buy the system installed.
Usually not. It needs space under the sink, a socket, the cold-water valve and the drain. The tap goes in a 1.3 cm hole or, if you would rather not drill, on a 3-way tap.
Yes: unlimited filtered water at the tap, with no bottles to carry or store.
No. Cancel any time with two months' written notice.
